More weight
As written in the spring of 2020
With the eagerness of seagulls flocking round a trash bin, trying to fetch what human gluttons left behind, I, too, feverishly scramble down in front of the flat screen of fear, indulging the latest Covid-19 diktat of his excellency, the governor of the illuminated state of Massachusetts. I clasp my hands in prayer, and with my heart pounding, I long to feel ever more the weight of the illustrious bureaucratic apparatus that is to save us all from everything and anything, even from ourselves.
I joyfully applaud politicians who are not afraid to go against the current of established science, tried history, or even common sense. I reckon that is what being progressive really means, and that is how progressive thinkers and greater good achievers distinguish themselves from the rest of the power-hungry folk. Progressive do-gooder politicians are known to rush to the nearest pedestal to get the upper hand in overlooking the society waiting to be put on a high horse, which media and oligarchs will do more than willingly. The high horse comes with impunity and becomes the front of the societal progress for all. Hurriedly, a statue is erected to remind people whose stroke of a pen decides their fate.
I am genuinely excited that we are entering an era of ruling by one stroke of a pen in the state of Massachusetts. I believe that much more can be done to conquer the human spirit in the Covid-19 crisis and far beyond. Considering that by a mere stroke of a pen people can be forced to wear masks in this instance without any legislature or political process or challenge for that matter, it is superbly progressive, and going forward such a new way of decision-making will allow the state to disband both the Senate and the House of Representatives, for their jobs are all of a sudden meaningless. All that needs to be done is to make sure that there are enough ballpoint pens for the governor as he becomes the absolute political party in our state. I am sure that W.B. Mason will take up the task. The saved state legislators` payroll money and related expenses can be, in this new political paradigm, redistributed elsewhere. The tens of millions of dollars will be needed after all, especially in the already ongoing economic catastrophe that is going to put even more weight on every aspect of people’s lives.
As far as Covid-19 is concerned, I am afraid that it is not enough for people to wear masks 24/7 as we move into months with plentiful sunshine, UV rays, fresh air, and omnipresent vitamin D, which itself is known and tested to be an effective virus killer. Leaving the science aside, I am mostly concerned that wearing masks could trigger a new phenomenon amongst the uncritical plebs, and masked vigilantes, like e.g., Batman, could start roaming the streets of many cities. Then the whole situation could take quite a different turn, resulting in some Gotham-like unintended consequences of a policy that is not based on science or data but on the progressive scriptum. This could put the whole new normal in danger. Also, why stop with masks? Another well-aimed stroke of a pen should deliver more executive orders for people to wear gloves and raincoats when going about their lives in public. After all, hands by far carry and transmit the ultimate number of viruses, and raincoats would protect clothes from being contaminated outside where bacteria take advantage of moving air. Bicycling must be banned altogether; people driving convertibles should never put their top down without proper PPE, including shields or even whole hazmat suits. Wearing masks in public is just a droplet in the ocean of viruses that we have been surrounded by and, surprisingly (Dr. Fauci must be stunned by that), managed to live with for thousands of years. Covid-19 is just one of the many invisible enemies that we must deal with. I only wish that people during the plague epidemic had come up with the social distancing concept. What a brilliant idea it is! This is progressive thinking in its finest form. No science, no history, and against common sense, and yet the society goes along without questioning its merits. I am myself a big fan of this concept, and the 6-foot mark, which has no credential in any medical periodical, gives it already a cult-like status. I believe that during the second and third waves of Covid-19 that will wash off on our shores thanks to depleted immune systems as a result of social distancing, the mark should be doubled to 12 feet and 24 feet, respectively. I expect books, papers, and research studies to be written on this topic to make it commonplace in the new normal because the concept of social distancing is so ahead of its time that it could save humankind, not only from illnesses as we are being told but especially from one another.
I am proud to be a member of this relentlessly progressive state and society. It is historic times we live in, and more is to come, and I am certain that such progressive utilities in the time of Covid-19 will be applauded by a contingent of obedient eagerness flocking round the TV sets that emanate fear and teach to worship the erected progressive statues. Thus, please, your governorship, do not waste any time and strike your whimsical pen again and put more weight on us, the people walking by the high horse of impunity. There will be no ifs, no ands, no buts, and no doubts. This is the new normal after all. All hail the new normal!
